Lesson 17

Look at the Birds — Your Father Feeds Them

Key Bible Verses

Matthew 6:26

"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Matthew 6:28-29

"So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

Matthew 6:33

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

Helpful Explanation

Worry is one of the greatest struggles for every person. We worry about food, clothing, money, our families, and the future. Jesus does not ignore these real needs. Instead, He points us to creation: look at the birds—they do not plant crops or store food, yet God feeds them. Look at the wildflowers—they do not work or make clothing, yet God dresses them in beauty greater than the richest king. If God cares for birds and flowers, how much more will He care for you, His beloved children? Jesus gives us the key to overcoming worry: "Seek first the kingdom of God." When we make God our top priority, He promises to take care of everything else we need.

Practical Application

The next time you feel worried, go outside and look at the birds or the plants around you. Let them remind you of God's faithfulness. Then pray: "Father, I choose to trust You with this worry. Help me to seek Your kingdom first today." Make a habit of turning every worry into a prayer. God has not forgotten you.
