Matthew 5:3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:6
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."
Matthew 5:8
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
Jesus begins his most famous sermon by describing what a truly "blessed" or happy life looks like. It's not about being rich, powerful, or famous. Instead, true happiness is found in our relationship with God. When we are "poor in spirit," it means we recognize our deep need for God. We can't save ourselves or be good enough on our own. This humility opens the door to His kingdom. When we "hunger and thirst for righteousness," it means we have a deep desire to live in a way that pleases God. He promises to fill that hunger! A "pure heart" is a heart that is focused on God and wants to please Him above all else.
Every morning, start your day with a simple prayer: "Father, I need you today. Help me to live for you." This reminds you that your strength comes from God, not yourself. When you read the Bible or pray, ask God to give you a greater desire for Him and to help you live a life that honors Him.
